Riding in Merritt

Where the heck is Merritt you are gone ask probably soon. Well, Merritt is a small town about 3 hours away from Vancouver, North East. The town itself isn't that amazing but the riding is. Really nice smooth fast trails, something for everybody.

We left Vancouver friday night. Half way between Hope and Merritt is a tollbooth on the coquihalla highway. Sometimes this highway pass which is about 1200 meter high is closed in wintertime. When we crossed it it was open. Actually they closed it on Saturday night since it snowed about 20cm.

We stayed at the Monck Provincial Park, really nice place.

The next morning we did some riding. Kerstin underneath a tree.

We had to try this thing 10 times before we managed to do it together.

Well, that is just a foto shoothing in front of the parking lot. Normally we don't ride in a puffy jacket and without a helmet.

The vegetation in the interior (everything not on the coast like Vancouver) is totally different. It is a lot dryer. I talked to locals and they told me it rains only on 2 days during the summer. I think it rains more often in Vancouver in one day. It was interesting to see still moss on the trees, I thought it occurs only in wet areas. I really liked this strong colour in contrast to the grey landscape.

We did Ziggys trail, if you ever go to Merritt, do this trail. It is like a halfpipe. It is build into a river valley and you go up the banks, just amazing. Some of the best riding I did.

Here is a movie of Seppel riding through the pipe, thanks Paul.

We had a long day and so we needed a rest.

Paul riding back to the car. It is nice to see some scenery. Riding in the shore and on the coast you normally don't see much other than trees.
